Wenderholm Regional Park
46km from Auckland CBD
1.5 hours loop track
The perimeter track follows the boundary of Wenderholm Regional Park. Taking you through lush native forest, past a beautiful estuary and numerous opportunity for impressive sea views. This track is a must do in if you find yourself north of Auckland.
Starting from the car park you can either start the track left or right. We chose to go right past the towering plane trees, which offered us wonderful autumn colours. Veering left the track hugs the road and takes you through some native bush and over streams before descending to a little clearing over looking the Waiwera River and township. From here, prepare for a leg workout as the track ascends steeply through some tall Nikau palms. The top of the track offers some amazing sea views out to Motuora Island.
The track follows the cliff edge before descending down past the historic water reservoir which used to service the Couldrey House located on the beach. On your way down keep an eye out for the native Kereru. Upon completion of the track make sure you head to the beach where there is ample opportunity to enjoy a picnic!
