Waitakere Tramline Loop Tramp
Cascade Kauri Regional Park

30 Minutes drive from Auckland CBD
4.5 Hours Loop Track

Dogs: No

Starting at the Waitakere Dam, the track follows the old tramline which was used to transport supplies when the dam was built over 100 years ago. Passing through tunnels, nikau forests, fern groves and a stream crossing (and more!) this is one of the most varied and action packed tracks in the Cascade Kauri Regional Park.

On the return loop be prepared to sweat it out up the newly constructed stairs back up to the dam. We went during July and the tree line was covered in tui's sometimes 5 to a tree! An epic sight to see! Bring some food and water, I got super hungry!

Location: The walk begins on Scenic Drive, 7km north of the Piha Road/Scenic Drive intersection, or 1.5km past Mountain Road, at the large car park on the left. Stroll down to the Dam and take a left down the Tramline track, walk this track until you reach the Anderson track which will bring you back up to the dam
