Upper Nihotupu Walk
Waitakere Ranges Regional Park

25km from Auckland CBD
1.5 Hours to the Dam and back
Dogs: No

Starting though some beautiful native bush before joining a gravel road, this easy stroll offers some great views. Following a stream through to the Dam itself there are a couple of epic waterfalls to stop by and marvel at. The historical Nihotupu Dam is very much worth the walk, standing at over 100ft tall and storing over 530 Million gallons of water it makes for a very impressive structure.  A further 10 minute walk will take you to a picnic area where you can follow the old tramline to the base of the Nihotupu Dam. From here it is possible to return to the top of the dam via a series of stairs, these are steep! So be careful. Such a great walk for all the family.
