Recently we stumbled across a real gem in the Waitakere Ranges. I'm regularly surprised by the beauty of the west coast but this place really made me take a deep breath. Placed above White's beach between Piha and Anawhata the McElwain Lookout sure boasts views that showcase the ruggedness of this wild coastline.
The walk starts from the carpark on Anawhata Rd and takes you through about 100m of bush. You will see a wooden platform that takes you above the canopy and gives you a real unique perspective. If you are in the area I suggest you check it out! You won't be disappointed.
